Nat Pennington
CEO, Humboldt Seed Co.

Originally from upstate New York and Philadelphia, Nathaniel Pennington “hightailed it out to Humboldt County” at age 18 after studying ceramics and glass blowing in art school. He began growing vegetables biodynamically while living in intentional community, and still applies many of these principles to breeding areas and trial fields. As a fisheries biologist, he co-founded several successful nonprofit groups and wrote millions of dollars in grants including a grant for $100k that initiated genomic research on salmon, which contributed to adding endangered species protections for Humboldt Salmon.

He says, “Because cannabis is quickly evolving both in terms of the plant species and the industry surrounding it we feel like we have clear advantages through our 20 plus years of industry and community experience combined with our science-based breeding strategy.”
